Opera window trim help Empty Opera window trim help

Post by bitterfitter Mon Jan 25, 2016 9:57 pm

So I was planning on using the 2 piece trim on my opera windows but because I have a vinyl top it is not wide enough to fit. I have this trim I took off another car without a vinyl top.
Then I was going to buy the other style trim which is one piece but uses the little corner fill pieces. But these pieces don't seem to follow the shape or angle of the opening. What am I missing here?
I do have photos I can share tomorrow. I'm just trying to get this wrapped up.

I think this is where these must go. Which means I have the pieces for the small window trim not the large triangular window trim.
Damn it!! Now what??

It looks like there are at least 2 types of large window trim being sold. The type from the Parts Place looks like it needs the coupling at the very acute corner of the trim. The type from OPGI use the coupler at the top corner near the B post.
Guess I may be in luck after all!!

So does it look, to you guys, that I have the correct corner pieces to use the large opera window trim from OPGI? Does anyone else offer this type of trim for the large rear windows, that fits a vinyl top car and uses the corner trim connector pieces I have?

Id swear those look identical to the corner pieces I have. Which window corner would these fit? Definitely not the smaller acute corner at the back end of the window. Those would have to have a much smaller angle to them.

On the Monte they're for the upper corner closest to the side window.

So I still think you guys are right. The pieces I have are just the wrong angle. Anyone have a set for sale or a lead on any?

I see a guy has a couple sets on eBay. One set for large windows and one set for the small windows. How can these be different if the front of the window is the same for both? When I replaced my quarters, I used full oem ones and left the filler piece out. The large windows should be the same as the smaller ones at this corner? Right?

There seems to be much confusion out there as to which corner trims are used for what cars. You're correct in that on Chevelles/Malibus the glass would be the same at the front corner whether large or small windows. Where you find the difference is with the shape of the glass on Montes (and, some other GM models).

I've got two corner trims that I removed from a '76 Malibu that are what you need. PM me and I'll get you squared away once and for all.

Tell you what...I've got a set

The Monte's is a less severe angle -- maybe you got those by mistake? Were they on the car when you bought it?

No. Bought them from a guy that claimed they fit the malibu's. Live and learn.
