Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
Im going with this bracket set up for A/C I have not tried to mount it yet still working on other stuff.
" />
" />
It may work or not as my set up is all different from front running accessories.

Energy suspension. Here is a link to the rear set.
http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=3.3132
Going to try Prothane. As for the accessory mounting, I like the Holley kit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-20-136/overview/

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I like that set up for Accessories. I had used the Energy suspension bushings in my car and the squeaked really bad. I used that special lube they sell and every thing. It was so bad I took them out and replaced the control arms with adjustable, greasable ones. Plus I wanted to be able to change pinion angle if I need to with the new engine and trany.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
If the Prothane work I'll ship the Energy suspension stuff back and order the rest from summit. I know someone makes the urethane that fit the stock sleeves cause I used them on the Maroon Chevelle. Maybe I should go hunt through my receipts.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
The Prothane bushings came in and they fit. So I can now send back the energy suspension parts. Hey where can I find core support to frame boy mounts?

I wish I could find stuff on their site. Its awful to search on. I found the bushings cause of the part number posted but I would like to see if they have the whole body mount kit too. I'll keep trying till I figure it out. Thanks for the info!!

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
Thanks. I see ss396 also carries them. Damn I never have seen one of these frames rot out. And I am from the northeast.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I am not sure I like the look of my Powder coated frame. It has dry areas and some that are too glossy. I was considering painting over it with Chassis saver. I love the look of that stuff. But on the other hand you do not see much once its assembled. The sandblaster did a lousy job up above the rear end where you cannot see it once its installed but I see some spots of rust still there. I will at least have to clean that area up and use chassis saver on it.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
I guess frames can rust out if they are in enough salt over the years. I had to scrap an Elco because of that. This Northern salt country eats cars for lunch.
On my current Elco project, I used Rustoleum primer & semi gloss on the frame & bottom of the body, after I had it sand blasted.
My idea was to use something that is easily available all the time, to touch up areas when paint gets scraped off etc.

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
The only car I've bought so far with a rusty frame has also been my recent El Camino. Â The body is fairly clean but from the doors back is just Swiss cheese and big flake.

The frame was still good on this Laguna though.

I'm not sure how you dodged it. I'm just up the road a bit from you and my frame has some rough spots and one place where it's been repaired -- all that was from the first ten years of its life when my parents drove it in the winter. It's the only thing left on the car I haven't been able to address yet.

I have never seen a body as rusted out as that one. Maybe the trunk lid was leaking water in for a long time (?)

Rear glass is my guess. Â

Re: 77 Malibu Classic frame off resto
My hand is actually coming through the bottom of the door.
Here's the other side of the trunk.
It was so rusty that after I stripped it and we loaded it up on a guys trailer, the only thing holding the main body together was the rocker to rear door jam and the windshield pillar.
