HELP inportant information needed.
I'm doing a front end upgrade with the the Stage 3 Complete Front Suspension kit from PerformanceOnline.com and I've run into a problem. The bolts/studs that the upper control arm cross shaft mounts too are no longer any good, the spline that holts them into the holes is stripped so that the bolts spin in the holes. I ordered a set from OriginalPartsGroup.com but they are not the right bolts, my bolts are 1/2 inch and the ones they sell are 7/16 inch. Does anyone know where I can find these bolts from? OPG.com told me that they only carry the 7/16 ones. Any help would be much apprieciated.

Re: HELP inportant information needed.
You may have to check out all the vendors that sell parts for your year. Have you tried The Parts Place yet? And there is also Dixie Monte Carlo. An online search should turn up quite a few places that may have what you are looking for. If you talk by phone to some of these places, they may know who else can maybe help you.
Worst case scenario would be to find some in a salvage yard car.

Re: HELP inportant information needed.
I had the same problem. I think if I remember correctly I nstalled the upper control
arm and had some one help hold the bolts while I tightened from the engine compartment. Im thinking another trick might be to put a few small tack welds around the hole to close it up a little then knock in the bolt. If you want to get new bolts try maybe a big car place like a Caddy or Impala parts distributor.

Re: HELP inportant information needed.
I have 2 ideas for you.
First would be trailer leaf spring bolts. They are splined like you need and come in various lengths. Just dont know if they come in 1/2"
Second would be a wheel stud. They come in 1/2" and they are also splined and come in various lengths.
I think a wheel stud might be something you could use.
Just a thought.

Re: HELP inportant information needed.
Are you talking about the big bolts that go through the bushings in the upper arms? I would try & call Energy Suspension, Sphon Performance or one of those other high end suspension companies.
I'd bet the 7/16" is a 68-72 Chevelle size & that's why most companies readily carry that size.

Re: HELP inportant information needed.
I believe he means the ones on the chassis that you put the shims on when you do an alignment. Those have splines on them when they're pressed into the frame.
I didnt bother taking them out when I blasted my frame for the fear of not getting them back in snug like original.
Thats why I think a wheel stud might be a good replacement if he cant find original ones. Otherwise I like Ants idea of tack welding the area to close it up a bit.

Re: HELP inportant information needed.
If you leave the bushing nuts loose the arm should swing up easily (without the ball joint attached). What I have always done is lift the arm up high so you can get a impact under the arm and hold the back of the bolt (engine compartment side) with a wrench. Before doing this wire wheel the threads and make sure the nut goes on very easily.
