Nascar spoiler Empty Nascar spoiler

Post by marx3 Wed Apr 20, 2016 2:51 pm

I am getting ready to restore a ´75 Monte Carlo and I want to make it a Hawaiian Tropic clone, like the one(s) in Cannonball Run. I need a rear spoiler for this, like the Nascar vehicles had back in the day.
Does anybody know how to get a hold of one of these or one that looks like it?
I have some measures from an 86 SS and the trunk and body has about the same width as the 73-77 model, so I could use a stand-up spoiler from an SS. It would propably look pretty authentic.
What do you think?

I know Dale jr's Laguna has the center (trunk) piece from a second gen camaro. BTW the cannonball run car was a Laguna, until it was primered. Then it morphed into a '76 Monte Carlo.

I have been looking at a spoiler from a 2.gen Trans Am. Should be the same for a Camaro. The Monte Carlo trunk lid is 55" wide and the F-body spoiler is only 43" wide. I let the idea go and started looking into the spoiler from a 4th gen Monte. I know the trunk lid on a 4th gen is about 54" wide, so a stand-up spoiler should look okay.

Yeah, I know the car they dip in the pool is a Laguna, but from there on, its a Monte. Check out the scene were they fire it up outside window, in the scene with Mr. Foyt. That curve on the side of the fender / door is definately Monte, not Laguna. Besides, the stickers are different from the Laguna in the pool scene.

That does look pretty good.
I am leaning more and more toward installing one of from a 4th gen Monte.

Funny how much wider a 3rd gen A-body is, than a 4th gen Monte.

I actually had to cut some of them ends off on that picture of the Cutlass because of the bend of the body would not go over the tail light with that spoiler

First Camaro spoiler you have to get two of them and splice them together for the center section Chevelle trunk is a lot wider than the Camaro you have to splice two together Monte SS standup is the way to go

Oh, yeah, I can see that now...
I could propably get a hold of two 2 gen F-body spoilers for pretty cheap, but I am not sure it would look right. Might be too steep and tall.

I am going with a 4th gen monte spoiler. Thanks for your help.

That is one cool liking car for sure.

I contacted a guy on here, who made a NASCAR tribute out of a 77. He also suggested fabricating my own.
I am starting to realize, that this spoiler is a flat piece of material and nothing more.
It think I may need to make some kind of flare for each wheel arch on the fenders. A lowered Monte, with those wider fenders and a set of big Good Year ballon tired REALLY looks cool.

That's basically what I did for both my cars. Just a flat piece of metal that we made a template for out of cardboard first. Then took it to a metal shop and had them cut it and bend it to our desired angle. Heavy duty too. These things will not bend for anything. lol

Trust me, I have been googling pictures of nascar spoilers for 3 weeks :-)
I like the thought of a flat piece of metal. how thick? I imagine it would have to be about 2-3 mm thick in order to not bend out of shape. or be too sharp.

That equals 3.2 mm's I thought so.
Great, thanks for sharing.
Can you post a couple of pictures of the spoiler and how it is attached? Just for inspiration?

Hi there. I'm not sure if this will help but you might try www.laurenengineering.com . I bought a 2in taller style rear spoiler for a 87 MCSS that I used to own several years ago. To be fair, they primarily cater to the 80's G Body crowd but hopefully they might be able to help you out. If they don't have anything that'll work maybe they could point you in the right direction. Good luck!

I like the idea of the 2" taller spoiler. Looks nice on that yellow monte carlo.
Certainly inspiration for this project.
I am propably going to build one myself out of sheet metal. I just gotta figure out a way to install it, that looks kinda "factory"
