Thanks for the pic. I do have some holes up there which I plan on using for mounting a bracket of some sort.

"Here is what Zucchi is referring to. I removed this from my car many years ago when I did a dash swap. I do not remember where it was mounted behind there. I included a pic of the mounting holes, You would still need to fab a bracket to make use of them. My car must have had the optional stereo. It still has the dual speaker mount for the dash that was shown recently on another post, and it still has the factory wiring for the rear 6X9's in the trunk to this day. I still have the speaker covers for the underside of the speakers in the trunk. The factory radio was long gone when I got the car.

Does anyone have a pic of what the correct factory radio looks like, for a 73? I have several Delco radios but would like to see a pic of the correct one."

Here's a 73 dash I have with the factory original radio. Let me know if you like me to take a close up pic.

I just checked behind the dashpad itself. Yes, there are two standoffs about 2" tall. Something can easily be threaded into them. I might give it a shot. Thanks again for the idea.

Here is a pic of my original 73 am radio. Probably not what your looking for since you have the factory dual 6x9s out back. Mine was just a dash speaker from what I can tell. Pic doesnt do the radio justice.

Thanks for the pics guys. That will give me a general idea of what it looks like as far as the numbers and color, I think GM used green lettering on some models.

Joe in all your years of working on these cars you've never seen that heat sink? Also, I really like how your inner fender wells turned out.

Thanks. Im happy with the inner fenders as well. I actually dont remember any of my other 9 73 chevelles having anything other than an aftermarket or am radio.

These are some pictures from the original salesman's optional equipment catalog and the sales brochure for 1973. My '73 was missing the original radio but did still have the amp behind the dash installed. I ended up installing a refurbished '76 model that allowed for four speaker outputs and you'd need to be real A-body obsessive to know it wasn't the one that came with the car, if you even could. The last picture is how to decode the label on the side of the radio if it is still there.

I can check my radio this weekend. I never removed it during the CD craze and made an aluminum mount inside the glovebox or a DIN CD player. My OEM radio has been in the dash since 73'.

Id like to know if the radio had any support brackets or is it just held to the dash by the knob stud nuts.

I thought they had the stud on the back to hang on a little bracket in the rear. Even sometimes a piece of band steel with all the holes drilled in it.

Thats exactly how Ive always installed aftermarket radios. I have my original AM radio that came with the car but there arent any support brackets and I dont know if there supposed to be any.

I recall there's one bolt (or bolt hole) on the side of the factory radio that attaches to the steel dash support. I could take a look at the service manual and illustrated parts manual when I get home from work this evening.

On the driver's side of the radio there is a hole that a bolt slides into. That bolt fits into a slot on a metal plate mounted on the driver's side of the radio opening.

I know these are not for a 73 but I have the stock am radios from my 77 El Camino and 74 Malibu and I have an am/fm from either a 76 or 77 Malibu that I found in a box in the back seat of a junkyard Malibu. The am/fm still had the side bracket attached to it and the am’s have the slot to attach to the same bracket.

Ok Who has that Mounting bracket for a single Speaker I have an Adapter plate for a dual Speakers already but seen to be missing them bolts to put on dash so Can and should be the single Speaker Option bracket for dash Speaker Need asap So I can put dash in
